Leave the Boat
September 10, 2008
“So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”
-Luke 5:11
The story of Jesus telling Simon to let down his net once more even though he had not caught any fish is an awesome one. For those of who don’t know it, Simon lets down the net and catches so many fish that they fill up two boats to the point of sinking.
What is so great about this story is that after being blessed so heavily Simon and others pull their boats up on shore and leave everything to follow Jesus. They leave EVERYTHING. I can just imagine these boats filled with fish being left on the shore and all their eyes firmly on Jesus not on their far less meaningful catch.
How often does God bless us and we spend all our time sitting back enjoying our blessings and not following Him. We would be there telling Jesus, “okay, okay I will follow you this Sunday at 10:30 but right now I have to count all my fish.” It sounds crazy but it is true. Thank you God for this car, but I don’t have time to read your word because I am enjoying this great car you gave me. Thank you for my family, but I have no time for you because I need to take care of them.
I have to remember to be willing to drop everything to follow Him. To not sit back and count my fish, but to leave it on the shore and follow Him.
